Well, I need it to look the same and not move, so that the div box is in the right position. I don't want the page to scroll at all, just the graphic in the background to stay and be the right size.

you can always go down a size or so, to about 750px width and 550px height.

Mine is set for xxxx by 1024. That is how I see it. Someone coming to see my site at 800x600 will see my background zoomed in. I would say that 800x600 or xxx by 1024 will be your best bet. You can't make the picture the right size to cover all the resolutions that folks will be seeing it and it look good. All you can do is say that "site is best seen at 800x600" or something like that, so they can change their monitor to see it correctly.
